Lawrence Race Unites Runners from Across the Globe to Support Health Care for All

Heartland Community Health Center invites the public to join the Kansas Half Marathon & 5K, set to take place on November 5th, 2023. The event draws runners from across the state, the country, and even internationally.

“We’re excited to bring runners through some of the best parts of Lawrence as part of the Kansas Half Marathon & 5k,” said Matt O’Reilly, Race Director, and Associate Professor at KU. “We see everyone from casual runners to elite competitors, both local and from all parts of the country. Last year we even had a runner travel all the way from Australia to earn their medal in the Kansas Half Marathon.”

This year’s event features a scenic course that winds through downtown Lawrence, Haskell University, Broken Arrow Park, Baker University Wetlands, Burroughs Creek Trail, and several parks and historic landmarks. The Half-Marathon will have aid stations along the route to support runners, and the 5K race will also feature an aid station.

Both the Half Marathon and 5K routes are USATF certified, and awards will be given for the top three male, female, non-binary, overall and masters runners, as well the winners of each age group. This event is inclusive of all ages, with groups starting at 19 and under for the Half Marathon and 9 and under for the 5K.

Participants in the Kansas Half Marathon & 5K will receive free photos after the race, along with an official tech shirt, a medal, a 13.1/5K sticker, coffee from Uplift, and beer from Lawrence Beer Company.

“Thanks to the support of our community partners, we’re thrilled to provide an unforgettable race experience for both runners and spectators,” stated Elizabeth Keever, Chief Development Officer. “Additionally, this event also wouldn’t be possible without the 150 volunteers who commit their time to make sure this event is a success.”
