Important Deadline Approaching: Kansas Families Can Apply for $120 in Grocery Assistance through Summer EBT

Low-income Kansas families have an opportunity to receive  grocery assistance, but time is running out. The Summer EBT program, a vital resource for Kansas school-children who are income-eligible for free and reduced-price meals during the school year, provides $120 per eligible child to help cover grocery costs when school isn’t in session.

The deadline to apply for this assistance is September 11th, and applications must be submitted through the Department for Children and Families (DCF) website at www.dcfapp.kees.ks.gov.

Created by Congress in 2022, the Summer EBT program is the first new permanent federal nutrition program in nearly 50 years. It has already provided a lifeline for nearly 100,000 students who were auto-issued benefits earlier this summer. However, there are still approximately 140,000 eligible Kansas children whose families need to submit an application to receive this critical assistance.

“Summer EBT is a lifeline for many Kansas families,” said Haley Kottler, Campaign Director at Kansas Appleseed. “Because of how recent the program is, many families may not be aware of it. We hope a last-minute push will help reach more families across our state’s communities.”

At Heartland Community Health Center, we understand the importance of ensuring that all families have access to nutritious food. Our Care Cupboard food pantry, a partnership with Just Food, is another resource available to help those in need, providing additional support to our community members who may be facing food insecurity.

If you think your family might be eligible for the Summer EBT program, we encourage you to apply before the deadline. For more information and to see if you qualify, you can access DCF’s Summer EBT fact sheet here.

Let’s work together to ensure that no Kansas child goes hungry this summer. Please share this information with others who might benefit. .
