A Year of Growth, Gratitude, and Groundwork

Reflecting on this past year, I’m filled with gratitude for the progress we’ve made together. We laid the foundation for Bluestem Wellness, our newest location with a focus on expanding behavioral health services, and strengthened our commitment to accessible, compassionate care. Our partnerships have expanded, particularly in serving those experiencing homelessness, and our community health workers continue to bridge critical care gaps.

Meanwhile, River City Pharmacy has made medications more affordable, and Panda Pediatrics has expanded mental health services to children in our community. Our team remains dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare for all.

As we look ahead, I’m confident that together, we’ll keep building a healthier community. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Victor's New Beginning

Victor spent a decade homeless in Lawrence, Kan., struggling with addiction and neglected health. His life was a cycle of emergency room visits with no lasting solutions. But everything changed when he walked into Heartland Community Health Center.

At Heartland, Victor found more than just medical care. Nurse Practitioner Maureen Caro uncovered underlying health issues and connected him with a therapist to help address his mental health struggles. The team also provided crucial support during personal tragedies, including the loss of his daughter and a close friend. Staff members regularly checked on Victor, guiding him to community resources that improved his living situation. This ongoing support was vital in maintaining his recovery from addiction and rebuilding his life.

“Victor has done an incredible amount of work for his own recovery and health, and it is absolutely my most treasured experience as a provider to start with someone in a bad place and then later see them in their recovery,” Caro shared. “It brings tears to my eyes.”

Rx that Gives Back

Since its opening in 2022, River City Pharmacy has transformed the way our patients access their medications. Last year alone, patients saved an astounding $6.7 million on their prescription costs, compared to usual and customary pricing.

With every prescription filled through insurance, we not only reduce costs for those insured but also contribute to the overall health of the community by subsidizing care for uninsured individuals.

In 2024 we further enhanced our service by offering free delivery, ensuring that patients can easily receive their prescriptions right at their doorstep.
